    You can’t put a regular expression in the target. It needs to be a URL, not an expression.

    I would advise against trying to do this as you will just cause problems, and it’s not necessary. WordPress will already set the canonical URL.

    That the default action by WordPress is fine, and the canonical URL will take care of it.
