    hey everyone,

I’m selling dog food on my Woo Commerce site. I’m using the attribute feature as a way to list ingredients.

my question is: is there a way to select what order the items show on each product.

I’m legally required to post it in order of weight, and that will change from product to product; even if the items are in both

    Hi @timbows,

Currently, the default behavior is to sort attributes alphabetically. However, you can manually sort your attributes by dragging and dropping them into the desired order in Products -> Attributes of each Term. More info:

If you’re looking for a more streamlined solution, consider a plugin such as WooCommerce Custom Product Order. This plugin provides a more advanced way to manage and display product attributes.

Also, as you’re selling dog food, consider using the Woo Subscriptions extension. It allows your customers to subscribe to regular deliveries of your product, ensuring they never run out of dog food and providing you with a steady income stream.

I hope this helps! Please let us know how it goes or if you need further assistance.

thank you for the response; I’ll take a look at that plug in, but u have a feeling it isn’t what I’m looking for.

I’m looking for a way to have the same attributes show in different orders on different products

    for example:

product :1 it will go ‘beef, chicken, salmon’

product 2: ‘salmon, beef, pork and chicken’

it’s because I have to order them in from biggest quantity in the recipe to smallest

    Hello timbows

    Thank you for your reply.

Just to confirm, do you want to control the order in which ingredients appear on different products?

For example, one product may have “beef, chicken, salmon” and another product may have “chicken, beef, salmon“. This shows ingredients sorted by weight.

In my opinion, it would be simpler to use a Custom Field where you insert a list of ingredients as a simple text. Then show that text on the product page.

If you want to control the order of Attributes, that will require some custom coding and a mechanism to decide the order of ingredients on each product.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you have more questions or concerns. I am here to help ??

    Best regards.

yeah simply typing it in to the body of the product page makes sense.

I wanted to use attributes for a few reasons. First of all, it would give me the ability to switch ingredients on all relevant pages at once. So if chicken stock to Turkey stock, I just need to change the attribute. Also, I have a script written that uses the attribute description. When you click on the ingredient, it shows the description under it. Stuff like that.

Hopefully I can make it work

    Hey, @timbows!

Thanks for explaining why you want to add it as attributes.

In this case, as my colleague mentioned, you would need some custom coding to make it work they way you need it.

While we can’t provide support for code customization as per our support policy, we do our best to offer advice and direct you to appropriate resources.

You can visit the WooCommerce Facebook group or the #developers channel of the WooCommerce Community Slack. We’re lucky to have a great community of open-source developers for WooCommerce, and many of our developers hang out there too.

I’m going to leave it open for a bit to see if anyone is able to chime in and help you out further.

    Have a wonderful day!
