• Hi,

I need to have a URl redirect to another URl, but still display the original URL in the address bar. Is it possible?
I have just did it with the same domain but in that case the website was created in Joomla and now in WordPress

  • Hi @giulia72

Yes, it’s technically possible, even if it’s not at all recommended for SEO and security reasons. Have a look at Frame redirects: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_redirection#Frame_redirects

I strongly encourage you to point your “original URL” to your new WordPress website rather than using a frame redirect.

I don’t think it is the solution as iFrame redirect is not good for SEO and I have always used 301 redirect the only difference was the same website was created by Joomla not WP.

I have tried to change URL site settings in WP , it works exept the font-awesome icons are not more visible . Any idea?

Oh, if you changed the Site Address and WordPress Address in the settings, and you don’t want to display the original URL in the address bar anymore, in that case, be sure you’ve followed the Migrating WordPress handbook first, especially the Changing The Site URL part.

If I understand correctly, you already did that successuflly. If so, having remaining errors such as font issue is normal: to finish updating your website URL, you need to use a plugin such as Better Search Replace to replace in the database your old url by the new one.

Of course, be sure to make a full backup of your website first.

I did it with a different CMS non WP,

I think the original address remains somewhere, I will give a look to plugin you suggested

Then I’m afraid I may not fully understand your exact needs unfortunately. Could you please elaborate on your needs? What exactly are you trying to achieve? If possible, could you share the URL(s) of your website(s)? This would provide valuable context to better understand your challenge.

you can see the issue as follows:

    • visit https://www.pcvuesolutions.com
    • it opens pcvuescada.com and you can see in the url of your browser pcvuescada.com
    • I want it opens pcvuescada.com (as the website is there) but I want in the url pcvuesolutions.com

    Is it clear now?

unfortunatelly pcvuesolutions.com is a domain name maintened in a different provider and pcvuescada is hosted in a different place

pcvuesoutions.com has not any website, only redirection…I know it is complicated to explain

    Thanks for suggestions
