• Recently I have had a spate of bots subscribing to my lists. I have moved them to the Trash, but I am not able to delete them permanently. In Trash, they are shown as being in the WordPress users list and the WooCommerce Customers list (although they are not actually showing up in those lists). How can I remove them permanently from my site? They all look similar to this: xtw18387cf56

    Any suggestions?

    Hi @julie2009!

If you cannot delete a subscriber, it means they’re probably added to the WordPress Users list or the WooCommerce Customers list

WordPress Users should be deleted as a User by going to the WordPress dashboard > Users page

Customers added to the WooCommerce Customers list can not be removed from this list or from the MailPoet plugin, unless you delete their order from the WooCommerce plugin.

They can be marked as “Unsubscribed” though.

Thank you for you response. I have marked them all as inactive rather than unsubscribed. And I have logged them out everywhere. But there are more bots registering every day. My question is: how do I prevent them from attacking my site in the first place? Is this related to Mail Poet? or to Elementor? I have reCaptcha active on my submission forms.

    Hi @julie2009!

Is this related to Mail Poet? or to Elementor? I have reCaptcha active on my submission forms.

Can you please confirm which forms are you using? Is it the default MailPoet one or a third-party one like Elementor?

Depending on which type of form you are using we have a step-by-step guide on how to protect these forms here: https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/182-add-captcha-to-your-websites-forms

In case you are using Elementor (since you mention it) here is a guide from them on how to correctly implement reCaptcha: https://elementor.com/help/recaptcha-elementor-integration/

I hope this points you in the right direction.

    Hi @rdeari

I have submission forms on my site, but cannot determine which are allowing the bots to enter. I have a Mail Poet slide-in form (which is having another issue I have asked about in a forum–but haven’t had a response yet– where the image is on the top of the form instead of to the side), but I am already using reCaptcha v2 checkbox on that form. Should I use the Mail Poet built-in Captcha instead?

I also have an Elementor submission form, but it also has the reCaptcha v2 checkbox form.

I have also added a GDPR checkbox to all my forms.

There is just one form that I am not able to access except for on the posts’ Elementor editing page, and that is the comment form. Anyone making a comment must input their email address (which will not be shown to the public) and they have an option to tick “Yes, add me to your mailing list.” However, this form cannot be submitted without a comment, and there are never any comments from the bots. The strange thing is, though, that when I attempt to edit this form on the Elementor editing page in order to add reCaptcha and a GDPR notice, a notice pops up saying that “this post is closed to comments” and it will not allow me to edit. I have tested this though on an incognito page, and I do not get this message and am able to make comments.

I already use the Shield Security plugin, so don’t know what else I can do.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi again,

?and I do not get this message and am able to make comments.

It looks that that’s the one that you would need to protect or deactivate first.

Please give it a try and see if that fixes the issue for you.

    Cheers
