• Hi, since some week I continue to find such error on my server:

AH01071: Got error 'PHP message: PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2423808 bytes) in .../wp-content/wflogs/rules.php on line 4980', referer: https://www.peopleinside.it/.../wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=post

(PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted)

This happen on a file that seems from Wordfence.
I have a dedicated VPS so I’m not on a shared hosting with low memory.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

Hi @peopleinside, thanks for reaching out.

Even if you’re not on shared hosting, the exhausted message does point to memory being used up by something outside of PHP on the server. A Wordfence file will often be a trigger this error because it runs rules updates or scans regularly, but isn’t the root cause from what we’ve seen before.

If checking logs for similar errors, or looking at running processes on your server doesn’t seem to point to a cause we may be able to still look into whether we can see anything ourselves. Providing a server/PHP log file that contains this error and a txt export of your Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page to wftest @ wordfence . com would be helpful. Just make sure to put your forum username in the subject and tell me here when you’ve sent it, so we can take a look.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Sorry @peopleinside, we have received a Wordfence Activity Log that can be sent from the scan page, but not a diagnostic report from the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page.

The activity log can certainly help, but I think we’ll need to see a little more about your server/configuration that is only available through the diagnostic.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.
