• Hi,

So I think around 6.3.x my site which had previously been working developed the “The editor has encountered an unexpected error” problem. I tried deleting the browser cache and all the other common fixes I could find. Nothing seemed to work, and eventually I just decided to use the Classic editor plugin and hope that a later update might fix it.

Well, I’ve just updated to 6.4.2 and it’s still persistent. It works fine with the classic editor plugin, but if I turn that off I can’t create posts or pages. Short of reinstalling with a clean install, which I’d rather avoid, I’m out of ideas. So any help would be great.

    It generates this error:

  • Deactivate all plugins as a test. Does it work then? If so, activate them bit by bit until the problem occurs again.

If it also happens without plugins, change the theme you are using to a standard theme. If it works with this one, your actual theme is to blame.

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions but it still happens both with the standard theme and with no plugins enabled.

Check whether mandatory plugins are available (directory mu-plugins or under plugins > obligatory).

Which standard theme did you use? A block theme or a classic one?

Are there any entries in the wp-config.php file that may load additional data? The file should look something like this: https://github.com/WordPress/WordPress/blob/master/wp-config-sample.php
