How to add a page template with sidebar

  • Hi, what a great theme! Thanks for creating it and offering it for free. I just gave it a 5 star review.

    I am learning how to use this theme for my needs. Eg I have just learned how to create a child theme and add fonts using the “Create Block Theme” by www.remarpro.com. I assume this is the best way to do these things – please let me know if there is a better way.

    I now would like to add / create an additional page template that has a sidebar.

    There are plenty of how-to articles on how to add a sidebar by modifying an existing page template and saving it.

    However, I believe this would over-write the existing page template that does not have a sidebar – so I would lose the page template that does not have a sidebar. I would only have a page template with sidebar.

    How do I create a separate page template with sidebar but also keep the existing page template without sidebar?

    I have been looking for a menu item to either 1) copy a template to modify it or 2) after editing a page template, to save it as a new template, but cannot find this….

    Hi again, I have figured out how to create a new template based on the Page template.

    I tried to modify it to add a sidebar, and that is pretty easy to do, eg to use a Column block with 2 columns, one col for the Title and Contents, one for the Sidebar.

    Where it became difficult for me was to try and figure out the block settings to have the page title contents and sidebar fit inside the same width of a page without sidebar.

    I have not figured this out.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Or may I request that a page template with sidebar is added by the developer to the theme? I think it would save a lot of people having to create their own and having to ask support questions, since this can be done in different ways.
