While I have followed all of the steps to allow Editors to view-only Analytics data, the menu does not appear for them within the backend of WordPress.

If I look at the site health, I’ve got a red circle next to “googlesitekit_view_shared_dashboard: ?”

My guess is that’s the issue, and it’s on every website where we have Site Kit activated and connected.

Site health data will be submitted to you. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out @jamiedallaire. From reviewing your Site Health information which you kindly shared, I can see a couple of plugins active that can alter the availability of admin menu items.

To troubleshoot this further, can you create a temporary Edit profile and disable the Admin Menu Editor Pro and Ultimate Dashboard plugins? After doing so please login with this newly created Editor account and check whether the Site Kit tab does appear. Note that you will need to have pre-configured Dashboard Sharing, which it sounds like you have done.

Note also that it’s not uncommon to see a red notice regarding Dashboard Sharing. This can be disregarded, and it shouldn’t impact the availability of Dashboard Sharing for you, or the availability for non admins if you’ve configured Dashboard Sharing.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi James,

I did what you said, but from our own website (https://detailmedia.ca). As you can see by the video, it worked no matter if I had those plugins activated or not: https://www.screencast.com/t/oje6ljgh

My client for https://smoothrockfalls.ca just confirmed that she does not see that menu item within her dashboard.

Okay, so update on this. A workaround I guess…

I logged into my client’s Editor account, and no Site Kit menu like she said. So, I went back into my account and deactivated those two plugins.

When I went back into her account, I saw the Site Kit menu so I clicked on it and accepted the terms (checkbox). Everything worked.

I then went back into my account to re-activated the two plugins. I go back into my client’s account and everything is working like it should now.

It seems as though the terms need to be accepted in order for the menu to start showing up, even with the two plugins activated. But those two plugins stop it from appearing right away. Strange!

Thanks for the update @jamiedallaire, the recording in particular was of great use. While it’s great that your workaround seems to have done the trick with your set up, I’ll dedicate some time to performing a check with the same plugins (free versions if necessary) to ensure all works as expected.

While I’m doing so, can you confirm that all works as expected now, even with the same plugins activated once more? You may wish to perform this check from a newly created Editor profile.

You’re more than welcome to use our website (detailmedia.ca) if you wish to troubleshoot! I can share credentials privately.

The client confirmed that she is now able to see the dashboard and is very happy. On smoothrockfalls.ca, an old editor profile was used and it works. On detailmedia.ca, a new editor profile was used and it works.

Unfortunately we’re unable to login to users sites, as per www.remarpro.com guidelines. I will, however, check and confirm all works as expected based on your findings. With your caching plugins and both admin menu related plugins there may have been a multi party conflict. Appreciate you going to the trouble of sharing a recording so I could view your particular set up.

Excellent, glad to hear it. Let me know if you encounter any further issues with this, or indeed if you have any other Site Kit related queries I’d be happy to assist from another support topic.

I will also keep you updated as soon as I have an update regarding testing with the same plugin environment.

That would be much appreciated, as the workaround would be kind of a pain to do on 50+ websites that we host and manage.

Thanks for your patience on this. I tested a similar set up to your own and in my case I don’t experience any issues, nor does it require me (as a logged in editor on this site) to click on the option to share anonymous data option before I can access the view only dashboard.

From reviewing your recording I can also see that you changed the title of the Site Kit admin menu. It’s possible that caching was at play, there were configurations between both admin menu buttons, or something else was impacting the behavior for non admins.

While I didn’t experience any issues, what you may wish to do is perform another check on one of your other client sites. If you wish to share a recording on another site I’m happy to check this further in the event I missed something, or that there is some unexpected behavior without using any plugin that modifies the admin menus.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.

    Hi James,

I had responded, but over email. I guess it never made its way to you. Here’s a copy of my response.

    Hi James,

Thank you for the thorough tests. After a few more tests, which I have linked to below, it certainly seems like it has to do with the Admin Menu Editor Pro plugin. But the workaround can be different for some of the sites, which is odd and a bit of a pain; especially since I don’t have access to all Editor profiles.

Hoping you can troubleshoot some more. Perhaps there is a fix with your next plugin update?

    Thanks,

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

Certainly I’m happy to perform some additional testing @jamiedallaire, note however that any fix on this may not be applicable on the Site Kit side if the path to the Site Kit has been modified by a third party plugin. Before I do perform some additional checks, can you confirm that if you don’t change the title or position of the Site Kit menu using Admin Menu Editor Pro, that no issues occur?

    Thread Starter Jamie Dallaire

    (@jamiedallaire)

    Hi James,

I have no real way of knowing that without doing a completely fresh install; which I unfortunately don’t have the time for. We always use our default blueprint, in which case, the Site Kit plugin has already been renamed and moved.

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

If the Site Kit menu has been modified, this may be the cause of the error you’re facing. I’ll perform some additional checks with the free version of the Admin Menu Editor once more and let you know here once I have an update. This is particularly true if you don’t encounter any such issues with Admin Menu Editor Pro deactivated.

I’ll hopefully get around to testing this today or tomorrow. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

Thanks for your patience on this. I performed some additional tests (with the free version of WP Admin Menu Editor) and in my case I don’t encounter any issues from various tests with Site Kit, Dashboard Sharing and this plugin alone. What I suspect is happening in your case, is your WordPress environment or user settings and your plugin configurations (including Ultimate Dashboard) are conflicting.

I also reviewed the below recordings once more, with some notes added:

    • Breakthrough Speech & Language Therapy:?No issues after configuring WP Admin Menu Editor Pro.
    • MineConnect: No issue after deactivating both menu editor plugins.
    • Cochrane Ontario: No issue after deactivating the WP Admin Menu plugin and clearing your cache.

To to summarize, it’s great that you were able to determine some workarounds, however, it’s difficult for me to determine any Site Kit related bug. I don’t notice any issues myself from testing, and with various configurations possible between both your menu editor plugins, one of which is using a pro version with more configurations, I’m not certain what to look for to match your set up.

I’m happy to perform some additional checks, and even raise a GitHub issue if we can determine a Site Kit specific bug. In order for me to do so I would need to know the steps to recreate any such issue. If you can recreate any such issue consistently on any of your new or test sites, let me know and I can perform the same checks.

Note also that while you do have multiple client sites, which makes it very time consuming to update and configurate Dashboard Sharing and make it accessible to all users with your menu editor plugins, what I would suggest is following a path that works for all sites. This may include only deactivating WP Menu Editor Pro before activating once more based on your findings. It’s not ideal for 40+ sites, however, I don’t have any Site Kit specific workaround given there are no defined steps to recreate such an issue.

Do let me know if you have any questions with the above.
