Customs fields do not show in emails and backend

We have added telephone number and email fields to the SHIPPING ADDRESS. Telephone being required.
Problem is that these fields do not show in emails and in backend in the order details. We have set these fields to show in both:
All these are checked:
Required?
Enabled?
Display in Emails?
Display in Order Detail Pages
What can be causing the data missing in backend (fields are visible in backend also but empty) and in the emails?WP 6.4.1.
WC 8.3.0. (just updated to 8.3.1. but not tested with this yet)What can be causing this?
