• Long story. We hired a guy to build our website. He’s now turned it off holding our site “ransom” for additional payment. We requested more to be done, and since those requests haven’t been completed, we won’t pay. In the meantime, we need to get our website compliance approved for our business (financial services industry), but since the site has been turned off, we cannot have this done.

Ultimately, we want to have this guy that set up our site removed from all aspects of the site, but just don’t know how to take back control. He paid for everything to get set up using our company credit card, and looks as though he has set everything else up in HIS name.

PLEASE HELP!!!!! How do we gain full 100% control of our website and remove this slime of a guy from having any kind of access!?!

    Thank you.

  • If things were paid for using your company credit card, you should be able to contact the hosting company directly. Prove to them you own the company, paid for the hosting/domain, and have them reset passwords to the hosting so only you have the access info. Pretty much your only way in is through the hosting company.

If the dev left the files online but just did something to make them inaccessible, you may be able to recover your stuff. If the files are gone…not much you can do there

Some further information would be helpful.

    1) Was you given any username, passwords or anything on those natures ?
    2) Did/Do you have access to any control panels such as for the hosting or WordPress ?
    3) What do you mean by turned off. Do you mean the website don’t load, a page appears saying it is locked or something like that ?

Those three questions hopefully will give me a better idea what is going on.
