• Am I doing this wrong? If I see a trackback URL on a blog post, and I want to write about that post, I copy that URL into the ‘send trackbacks to’ box when writing a post? Or am I embaressingly wrong?

  • You need to use the ‘trackback url’, not just the post url.

Have a look at some posts here, and down on the right it tells you too. Feel free to blitz away there ??

Yes, I get that, there’s a link that is the trackback link, that if you click on it goes no where. But where do I put that link? If I put that in my post then users will go no where. Where do I put it? I use the post URL to link in the text of the post, so where does the trackback URL go?

For me, when I click on a the trackback URL’s for my posts, they redirect me to the post itself. So I would think that all you need to do to make a trackback is to use the trackback URL as a link to the post in your text, and then make sure that WordPress is set to ping all URL’s in a post and the trackback should work.

I wouldn’t know, however, as I don’t trackback much. This is how it would seem to work, though.

When writing a post, there should be a “TrackBack a URI” field just below the Post text field in the “simple” edit window, or a “Send trackbacks to” field in the Advanced section of the advanced edit window.

Got it, yeah, you use the trackback URL as the link in your text. Then magically, a link to your site appears on the site your linking to. Cheers.

Grrr, thought I had it, did the exact same thing in another post and it all goes screwy. Maybe this just isn’t for me yet…
