I use CF7 on many sites (>100) and generally have no issues with it. On a few sites I have also used the Smart Grid Layout plugin for more complex forms. I have used both successfully on many sites. I am currently trying to debug a site that has been working ok for > 12 months. This form does not use the Smart Grid Layout plugin, but it is active in the site. There are other complex forms in the site which is where I started on this trail. As part of the debug process I have deactivated all of the plugins apart from CF7 and then tested the form, it works. If I activate all plugins it works, the email is generated and sent. But the spinning dot at the bottom of the form remains.

If I deactivate Smart Grid Layout plugin the form works normally. So right now it appears that the presence of this plugin in this site is preventing the CF7 form from working. I should also say that the problem was reported by my client from one of the complex forms that uses the layout plugin. It appears that on this site the presence of this plugin is stopping CF7 from working normally, the acknowledgement that the message has been sent and if enabled redirection, does not occur. It is also fair to say I have other websites that use this combination, and the same theme, even the same website and these work ok, at least I think so, I have not gone back and checked, so something may have changed recently.

Any guidance on what to do here would be appreciated. The theme in use is the Divi Theme from Elegant Themes. Everything is at the current release level as at 09/11/23

The site is in a staging area so safe to do most things on.

A quick update on this: I have deleted and replaced CF7 and Smart Grid Layout. Same symptoms if I leave Smart Grid Layout activated. Deactivate it CF7 works normally. I have also just realised that update 4.15.5 came out today. All of my sites auto update. I tried another similar site, same symptoms. Both sites were working ok a day or so ago. It looks like there is a serious bug in this release. Please contact me if you want to access a site and replicate it. It is easy to do. I am going to look for the former version which worked ok.

I can confirm that rolling this plugin back to version 4.15.5 this bug goes away. Everything works fine. Underlying CF7 behaves normally, the spinning dot disappears and the message sent text comes up.

Sorry there was an error in my previous message. Roll it back to version 4.15.4 that version works ok.

    thanks for the detailed report.
So everything works as expected with the exception of the spinning wheel not disapearing once the submission is complete. Is that correct?
This also happens on cf7 forms that don’t use the smart grid but which has the plugin active on the site?

    (@wingers574)

Yes that is correct. I am currently working through around 15 sites and freezing the revision level to 4.15.4 to ensure that they continue to work. I can place the bug on a site if you wish to take a look.

    yes please.

so this should not be the case, i tested this scenario and the no script/css files from the smart grid are being loaded on pages that have cf7 forms that make no use of the smart grid form functionality.

The only possibly scenario is would be cf7 forms that use some functionality such as dynamic dropdowns/checkboxes, prefilling of form fields, redirects…. could this be the case with your forms?

@aurovrata I have updated your plugin on the following website. If you go to this page and enter something into the form (this form does not use Smart Grid, but it is used elsewhere in the website) you will see the form is never submitted. Link is here: Contact Us | Home-Start North Somerset you will be left with a spinning dot that never goes away. Downgrading the plugin will resolve it. Which is what I am doing as a short term fix.

The bug was first reported to me on this form which uses your plugin. Professional Referral Form | Home-Start North Somerset. This is where I started to chase the problem. All I can say is version 4.15.4 works ok, and all previous versions have worked ok. Version 4.15.5 introduces an incompatibility which prevents CF7 from completing the transaction and reporting to the user that the form has been sent.

Vanilla CF7 forms without smart grid do use the redirect function in Smart Grid, so yes there is a relationship.

can you please set WP_DEBUG = true on your staging server wp-config.php file so I can get the non-minified js files to load on the front-end.

    OK, done that for you.

thanks, so it looks like there is a an issue on the server returning a 500 erver fault error. Can you report any PHP errors logged in the error.log or debug.log file on the server?
