    Hi,

We are using a gift card plugin (https://www.pimwick.com/gift-cards/) in conjunction with WooCommerce, and when we add an emoji to the gift card message, the gift card is not able to add to cart.

We spoke to our gift card plugin support team and they tried deactivating all plugins including the gift card plugin, leaving on only WooCommerce. They then added the “Extra Product Options” plugin which will allow for a custom field to be added to the product page.

Then they created a Simple Product type and a simple Text field for the extra product option. When trying to add the product to the cart with an emoji, it also fails to add to cart.

So it seems like it is an issue with WooCommerce… Does anyone have any ideas how we might solve this?

    Many thanks,

    Paul

    Hey Paul,

    Thanks for reaching out!

It looks like you are experiencing issues with adding emojis to gift card messages, correct?

I have tested this using the premium Gift Cards by WooCommerce extension, and the gift card adds to the cart successfully when there is an emoji added to the message:

I see you have already mentioned deactivating all plugins except for WooCommerce, and the issue was still present. However, it’s possible that the current theme you are using on the site may be causing this behavior.

Can you try temporarily switching your theme to a default theme, such as Storefront, and then deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce core and the PW WooCommerce Gift Cards plugin and see if this resolves the issue?

Otherwise, you can see if the Gift Cards by WooCommerce extension works on your end, as it works as expected on my end ??

WooCommerce.com offers a?30-day refund policy?which you can take advantage of, allowing you to test the extension, and make sure that it suits your needs.

    Hi Roxy,

Thanks for your message. So we have already tried using the storefront theme and the issue persisted. We also tried other gift card plugins which also showed the same issue.

We did find that certain emojis were accepted such as “?”, which led us to think this might be to do with character encoding… but still haven’t been able to resolve it.

Any other advice? It would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Paul

    Hey Paul,

    Thanks for the additional information.

Since Gift cards are not a built-in feature of WooCommerce Core, this specific issue would need to be addressed with the respective plugin developers, as support for third-party plugins/themes is outside our scope of support.

However, I’m curious as to which emoji’s are causing this issue on your end. Would you mind sharing some emoji’s that are breaking the Add to cart functionality?

    Cheers!
