• Hello, I’ve just gone through a process of getting rid of my commerical theme (Astra) and blocks plugins (Spectra and Coreblocks) in favor of community-only stuff (2023 Theme) and no Blocks plugins. Did this to improve performance, which went up by close to 20% on Google Pageinsights.

But now I have a problem: there are blocks I need that are not in the core.

For example, need a block for callouts.

I realize there is a callout block plugin. But I’m trying to stick with what’s made by community.

    Questions:

Does the Gutenberg plugin offer blocks that are not available in core?

Where is the list of these blocks and other “cutting edge features” mentioned in the description?

  • Hi @polaatx,

The “cutting edge features” mean that the features for the editor first go to the Gutenberg plugin as an experiment, and then these are added to the core of the regular WordPress releases.

It doesn’t have exclusive features — it’s more like experimental features.

Using plugins makes sense and it is not necessarily a problem as long as you keep this to a minimum and only add when it is required.

In this case, try to prioritize plugins from trusted authors who are reliable and have good reviews.

Hello @foosantos, thanks for your reply. Is there a list of features of this plugin somewhere? If just want to see what is offered.

Hi @polaatx, there is not a list exactly like that.

You could check the Gutenberg releases that happened after the last WordPress releases to have more details: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/releases

As I mentioned, this is primarily an experimental/testing plugin, so the goal is to only test changes before they are added to the WordPress core.
