• I just noticed that my site is not displaying correctly and my wordpress admin section is also messed up (kind of like the stylesheet has bee stripped out and is merely displaying markup).

When you view my site (https://www.sheenaoosten.com) it sometimes shows a bunch of characters like “??]*[}Q?bw(?” etc in the page and source code but when i refresh the web page my website appears as normal. Then then when i visit another page on the site the same issue occurs again. The site is there, just need to refresh the page to get it to display.

Can anyone please let me know what is happening and what is causing the problem as I need to know where to start to fix this issue immediately!!!

Do i need to restore a backup of the database or is it some other issue that is causing it?

    I’d appreciate your immediate help!!!

    Sheena

  • Well it displays perfectly in Firefox but in IE I see what you mean. Also, as soon as I viewed it in IE I got a pop up that says my computer is infected and starts a fake virus scan. This is usually indication that either your site has been hacked or you’re running some sort of malicious script.

    Thanks thisisedie,

Yes that pop up virus scan thing happened to me today, right about the time that my site was hacked (according to the timestamps of when the php files were last updated).

Any ideas about how i can solve this issue? Will restoring the files with clean previous backups and importing a database backup work?

    I’d appreciate your reply.

    Kind Regards,

Ok, I am beginning to think it was not only my site that was hacked but also everyone else on my shared hosting account as the hosting provider themselves have appeared to have updated the php files (before I had a chance to inform them of the issue).

Will update my progress for the benefit of others…

    That happens sometimes. Stupid hackers.
