Activate the Akismet plugin in the Plugins section of your admin panel. It should have been included with WordPress. If it isn’t there, go to Plugins/Add New and search for Akismet.

Yes, it’s free to use, but you’ll need to get an API key, and Akismet’s guide can make it seem like you have to pay.

Just follow this guide to get the key for free. If you don’t already have a free wordpress.com account, you’ll have to sign up for one:
