The slug is already in use by another term but it isn't?

  • I can’t change my category slugs because apparently they are in use by another term.

    Though I’ve check all my tags and there aren’t tags with those slugs.

    What shall I do?

    Cos currently my slugs are link “Fishing & Tackle” where they look exactly like that:

    /category/Fishing & Tackle
    category/Accessories & Parts

    Not at all SEO friends with the spaces and the & symbol.

    I’m confused.

  • try without ‘&’ character

    Have you anything sitting in the trash that might be causing a terms conflict.

    I know with pages that the in the trash, can cause page slug conflicts, if you try and re-use one in the trash.

    Just a suggestion!

    I had the same problem and solved it by creating a new category with the slug I wanted. I guess the error message wasn’t accurate. What seemed to be the cause was that the category was already in use – by having sub-categories, pages, posts, etc. under it – and so couldn’t be renamed.
