• Hi. Is there a way to limit how much of a page is inserted? For example, can I make it so only 50% of the page B is visible on page A?

My goal is to use insert pages’ block to introduce or tease the content of another page and not to display the entire page in another page.

I thought this would be a common need, but I did search this forum for an answer first and got no relevant results, though I may be using the wrong terminology.

    Thank you.

I would use the excerpt or excerpt-only display for the inserted page, and then you can customize the excerpts for individual pages with the teaser content you want:

Thank you for the reply. I don’t believe this will work for me for a few reasons.

#1, I don’t see an excerpt section on the page (just posts). I don’t see a way to upload screenshot proof.

Before I explain the 2nd reason, I’ll clarify what I’m trying to do. I have a page where I post short paragraphs of info. I want to display those paragraphs inside another page, but as the paragraphs list gets longer, I only want to show the first, say five paragraphs, and then have a “read more” link to the page to see the entire list. New paragraphs get added to the top of the page, and older paragraphs of info are pushed down.

In other words, I’m trying to create a running page of facts, and just the top X number are shown on another page.

#2, I don’t see how adding to a page or post and then to adding to an excerpt is quicker than just adding the paragraphs directly to a block.

You can see where excerpts go in the screenshot of the link I posted above: https://wordpress.com/support/excerpts/

Hi Paul. I reviewed the link you shared, and it’s not accurate for the twenty twenty three theme (at least). I see excerpt in posts but not pages.

Is there a way to restrict the length of the insert page block? If I could restrict it to Xpx in length it would work perfectly.

I see no setting in the plugin, so I assume it would have to be with CSS or maybe PHP. I know this is outside the scope of the plugin, but could you give me a clue or direction here?

Sorry for the delay, pretty busy over here. If you’re using the Block Editor (gutenberg), you can use the “More” block to determine where to stop the excerpt on any Posts or Pages. It’s basically an invisible block you can use to customize the excerpt length for individual pages. So I’d suggest using that on the pages that you are inserting (remember to add the More blocks to the original pages, not the page that has the content inserted in it). Hope that helps!

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, the more block placed on the page being inserted is ignored by the plugin.

I see no way to limit how much the plugin displays of the page that is inserted.

Can you check Admin Dashboard > Settings > Insert Pages and see what “Insert method” is set to? This functionality should work if set to “normal” method. “Legacy” method has issues.
