Updated Instagram app instructions

Hello,

I am looking for guidance in creating a successful app submission in the Instagram (Meta/Facebook) developers dashboard for the social login plugin.

The Instagram app requires adding the components: instagram_graph_user_profile & instagram_graph_user_media

To be approved, I feel the submission requires certain insights to how the plugin works which I just don’t have.

Can anyone supply the details in order to pass?

The instagram_graph_user_media permission allows your app to read the Media node, which represents an image, video or album and the node’s edges. The allowed usage for this permission is to create physical or digital books from the app user’s photos, including exporting photos for printing or displaying the app user’s photos to other app users within the app, for example with social or dating apps. This permission can also be used to edit and create new photos or videos based on the app user’s existing photos and videos, or display the app user’s photos and videos in an external device such as a TV or digital photo frame. You may also use this permission to request analytics insights to improve your app and for marketing or advertising purposes, through the use of aggregated and de-identified or anonymized information (provided such data cannot be re-identified).

Please provide a detailed description of how your app uses the permission or feature requested, how it adds value for a person using your app, and why it’s necessary to app functionality.”

While reviewing this submission, we were unable to verify the requested permissions because the use case details are invalid. We noticed that your use case details did not clearly explain or give guidance on how the permission was being used.

The instagram_graph_user_profile permission allows your app to read the username of the IG account and provides a way to determine if the account is a professional (business/creator) account or personal account (account type).

Disallowed Use Case(s) :

-It cannot be used as a primary authentication solution for developers.
-This API does not support IGTV, Stories, Reels, Comments, and insights.
-Does not support promoted posts containing Instagram Media content.
-Does not support moderation or hash tag media
-Does not support external token generator type of apps
-Does not allow apps to scan Instagram accounts for keywords or phrases

The allowed usage for this permission is to read fields in an Instagram user_profile (user's account type, user's ID, user's username). Provide the ability to display a person's Instagram feed inside of an app. Provide the ability to count followers and posts an Instagram account has.

For the next submission, please provide us with a verifiable use case for the review team to test and verify the functionality of the requested permission.

The instagram_graph_user_media permission allows your app to read feed media of the IG account (i.e. media count, media type, media url, thumbnail).

More specifically, requesting to moderate comments, identify @mentioned and hash-tagged media, or get data about other Instagram users are not verifiable use cases.

The allowed usage for this permission is to create physical or digital books from the app user's photos, including exporting photos for printing. Display the app users photos to other app users within the app, for example with social or dating apps. Edit or create new photos or videos based on the app user's existing photos and videos, (e.g. for photo or video Editing Apps).

Display the app user's photos and videos in an external device such as a TV or digital photo frame. Provide the ability to display a person's Instagram feed inside of an app.

For the next submission, please provide us with a verifiable use case for the review team to test and verify the functionality of the requested permission.

We weren't able to verify the use case outlined in your notes and screencast when we logged into your app.

To resolve this issue, please consider the following recommendations:

1. Check that your app is fully developed and has correctly integrated the requested permission before resubmitting for review.

2. Provide valid test credentials to access your app in a test environment/development mode. Development mode allows your app to access permissions with limited test data for complete review.

3. If your app is in live mode, create a test app for your live app to create an App Review submission.

4. Provide a valid test URL in your submission notes. This will enable us to access the testing environment of your app.
