Fatal error – cant get to my dashboard

  • Hi, I have officially got a disaster with my blog….

    Fatal error: Call to a member function add_rewrite_tag() on a non-
    object in /home/dougkpga/public_html/wp-includes/taxonomy.php on line 289

    I have no idea what to do.

    Plus my backup hard drive got corrupted.

    Not havign a good day.

    Please help.

    It would be greatly appreciated.

  • I wish I could help you, but I also have an error in my system that I’m hoping someone can help with. It is a “Fatal error”. I was upgrading WordPress using the automatic button in the backend. The process was taking a long time so I pressed the ‘go back’ button and now have lost access to the backend.

    I hope there is someone out there who can provide a step by step as to what to do!

    Hi Hope we get some help…

    I am trying to install 3.0.1 via my ftp with the Overwrite if newer function…

    Also gave my self more quota for disk space.

    I’ll let you know what happens.

    ok fortunately I had the site on another hosting.

    so I changed dns numbers and it worked.

    So i deleted the account with the new host and then got it transferred back to my current host.

    I have a feeling I upgraded before checking my quota.

    I read somewhere that someone deleted the plugins using ftp if you get the fatal error message.

    anyway if I had to rely on input here I would still be stressing.

    OK I tried the change of host – it worked fine – until I upgraded to 3.0.1

    Then I got the same fatal error as above wiith taxonomy.php

    This is not good, and there doesn’t seem to be much help for the people who have fatal errors.

    If you have ftp navigate to your directory,

    /wp-content/themes/
    Copy your active theme to your desktop and delete the remote folder, this will reset to the default theme.

    /wp-content/plugins/
    It might be a plugin so copying any plugins you think may be a problem to the desktop and deleting the folders will not affect data.

    Then see if you can logon the the admin area, if you can then it is a problem with the theme or a plugin.

    Re-upload the theme and check, do the same with the plugins, until you find the one causing the problem.

    A quick search and I found this relevent ‘version 3 upgrade’ topic, it looks like you just rename the ‘__plugins’ folder, create a new ‘plugins’ folder upgrade then just transfer and activate the plugins one-by-one!
