Alternative to twitter

So, I’ve been trying to find a locally hosted alternative to twitter. A widget that can show up as a feed on the right hand side of my blog.

Something that you can place a limit on the number of characters and when you click on the message in the widget it takes you to a page with all the other messages posted.
