I moved hosting a few days ago which resulted in domain without www being used by default (previously used www version). Sitekit was reconnected ok at that time. Google console issues reported domain issues so I corrected domain back to www version in WordPress. Now sitekit can’t connect. Error = The request to the authentication proxy has failed with an error: a site with the given URL already exists. The get help link gives no help with this issue. Can you help please.

Hi @epsilis thanks for opening a support topic and explaining the issue. Does the same occur if you temporarily modify your site title via?Settings > General > Site Title?and then try once more? You can add a single extra character to your site title, and revert back after attempting Site Kit setup.

If the above doesn’t help, could I also ask you to try switching back to the domain with www and performing a Site Kit reset? Once reset, switch back to the domain without www and set up Site Kit.

Let me know how you get on with the above.

Adam, This is a live customer site so I don’t want to change the domain name again if I can help it. Also doing a sitekit reset does not sound ideal either as it appears all settings will be lost – but having said that I don’t appear to currently have access to anything in sitekit other than the reconnect screen so can’t reset it anyway.

@epsilis I have reached out to the internal team for this to check your registered site records on the Site Kit service. If these do not match what are expected then we can reset these for you which should allow you to connect Site Kit once more without any issue.

Once I have an update I will pass it on here.

@epsilis Thanks for your patience with this. I have checked in with the team who inform me that there are two records on the service for your site:

It’s possible that it may be connecting to the wrong site. At this stage, the best option here would be to perform a Site Kit reset. This should reset the records and allow you to set up on your current site. You can do this by going to Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit.

Let me know if you are then able to reconnect without issue. If you still face problems then let me know and we can attempt the reset on our side.

@epsilis Just wanted to follow up once more and check that you have now got your Site Kit up and running?
