• Resolved revcoincidence

    (@revcoincidence)

Something has changed recently (my site is only 3 months old). When I go directly to my Events page (which defaults to List view), the message “There are no upcoming events” is displayed. Switching views makes the events appear (and they stay visible if I switch back). However, if I refresh the page, or click the link to the page to reload it, the events vanish again and the message “There are no upcoming events” is displayed again. ?I can make the events appear by adjusting the date picker, too.

This appears to be the same issue as reported earlier this week by @mongrel.

My site includes a membership option with two membership levels. If I am logged in with one (or as administrator), the events show. If I am logged in with the other (or not logged in at all), I get the “no events” message. None of the events are set up to be restricted to particular membership options so this doesn’t make sense to me.

I’ve tried to use the two recommended plugins for checking plugin conflicts, but the first crashed the site (error 500) when I launched it and the other reported non-specific but apparently serious errors on several plugins which are critical for the functioning of the site (and which seem to me to work perfectly well). At no point in the process could I replicate the failure – probably because I was logged in as administrator (see above).

Any help would be most welcome. Thank you.

    Hi @revcoincidence

Thanks for reaching out. Let me help you with this one.

It seems your using WP Super Cache plugin. Could you try configuring your cache based on the recommended settings provided in our knowledgebase article and see if that helps? [see WP Super Cache]

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks @d0153

I don’t know how you knew the site was using that plugin, but you were right! Sadly, making those adjustments hasn’t changed anything. (I just used the textarea section as per the example – I hope that was right.)

Looking forward to your next suggestion,

    Mark

    Hi @revcoincidence ,

Thank you for your message and I’m sorry to learn of the continued difficulties.

Have you gone through purging the cache from WP Super Cache after making the changes?

    Thread Starter revcoincidence

    (@revcoincidence)

    Hello @tristan083 ,
I did that, yes. I’ve tried again just now, but it hasn’t made any difference.
Thanks for your interest in my problem.

If it helps, I have tried replacing the menu link which produces “Events” with the subpage “/list” and with a search link (i.e. to find events which are in the future compared with 1st September) but neither of these worked either.

I look forward to hearing from you again,

    Mark

    Hi @revcoincidence

(I just used the textarea section as per the example – I hope that was right.)

Could I ask for the screenshot of how you set this up? I’d like to confirm something.

Moreover, could you try temporarily deactivating WP Super Cache from your side and see if that makes a difference? Let me know how it goes.

    Hello again,

I’ve deactivated WP Super Cache and tried the site again. Sadly, the problem still remains the same. Accordingly, I have reactivated the plugin.

I can’t send you a screenshot via this forum, but here’s what is in the WP Super Cache Advanced Options [textarea] box titled “Rejected URL strings” (cut and pasted from the site, not re-typed here):

    wp-.*.php
    index.php
    /events/
    /event/

The first two lines were there by default. I’ve just added the bottom two lines, as per the instruction on your webpage.

    Thanks for your continued help.

    Hi @revcoincidence

Could you try temporarily deactivating the WP Super Cache plugin and check if that makes a difference? If it does not help, by any chance, do you also have a cache running from your hosting provider? If so, please try deactivating them temporarily and see if the issue persists.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hello @d0153 ,

I’ve deactivated WP Super Cache a second time, but it made no difference again. I even accessed the site on a new browser just to ensure I wasn’t accessing cached pages, but it has made no difference. I’ve asked my hosting provider if there is a cache running there. I’ll come back to you as soon as I know. If it helps, I use your plugin on another site which is also hosted with this same provider and it works without problem on that site. This leads me to think it’s related to other plugins on this site rather than the cache but, as noted above, I haven’t been able to isolate the conflict.

    Hi @revcoincidence

I’m sorry to hear that you’re still having this issue.

Could you try creating a staging version of your live site and see if the issue persists from there? If so, from your staging site, please try activating only our plugins and use a basic theme (WP 2020 theme), and check if that makes a difference.

After that, you can activate your plugins/theme one at a time and see which one is triggering the issue. Hopefully, that helps you narrow down the conflict.

    Thanks, @d0153

Originally, I didn’t think I would be able to do this, but I think I might have a way, now. Sadly, I’m properly busy at present, so it won’t be immediate. Please don’t close the request due to inactivity! I will let you know how I get on…

    Thank you.

    Hi @revcoincidence

I hope you’re doing well. I just wanted to touch base and check in with you. It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from you. I was just curious if you had the chance to try out the recommendation provided above.

Let me know if there’s anything I can assist you with.

    Good evening @d0153

I’ve just started with the staging site, but unless I am mistaken, I don’t think it will enable me to replicate (or solve) the problem … in order to view the staging site, I have to be logged in as administrator – but the calendar works perfectly when I am logged in as administrator. I need to be logged out to verify whether the calendar has started working for logged out users – and I can’t access the staging site unless I am logged in as administrator!

So I am going to have to think again. Am I missing something?

    Hi @revcoincidence

If you’re using WP staging plugin for your staging site, I am afraid you will need to have the PRO version before you can disable the login.

However, you mentioned before you can replicate the issue by logging in to your site as non-administrator. Have you tried doing that and see if you can replicate the issue? If so, please try activating only our plugins and basic theme (like 2020 theme), and see if that makes a difference. After that, activate your plugins again one at a time and check which one is causing the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi @revcoincidence

I hope everything is going smoothly for you. I just wanted to touch base and inquire if you had the opportunity to review my previous response as it has been some time since we last heard from you.
