Hidden feature as link preview

    Didn’t this (see title) work before? If not, then here’s a feature request: It would be great, if a non-displayed feature image would still be visible in preview, when I post the link to Mastodon, Twitter, X or wherever. Even LinkedIn. Thanks for considering.

    And if the plugin is intended to do so (I somehow vaguely remember it does), then what could be the reason my blog stopped working like this weeks or months ago?

    Thanks for reaching out. Conditionally display featured image on singular posts and pages doesn’t add any metadata (e.g. open graph) itself, but it works seamlessly with yoast seo (and maybe other plugins with similar functionality). Do you use any of those?

    Thanks for your answer, Cyrill. I use a bunch of indieweb plugins. Yoast is a huge plugin with an overwhelming mass of features. Do you know any leightweight alternatives? Would be great, if they have standard settings, so I don’t have to check dozens of boxes before each publishing.

    Hi Drikkes,

    Well, it’s a bit hard to help you if you don’t tell me which plugin you are using… The one that is tested and works is YoastSEO and thus my recommendation. I may support alternatives, if possible, I’ve got time to implement it, and you tell me the alternative…

    Hi Cyrill,
    sorry for not answering. Got busy and had no time for my private website. My question is not so important, as to spam my WP backend with Yoast’s self-marketing. It’s a small blog with no need for all the heavy SEO stuff. I’d rather renounce to have a hidden feature as a link preview then. Thanks for taking care.
