• We have a couple of different wordpress installations on our server. We recently noticed that we can’t create posts over 16222 characters on either of them. If it’s less than 16222 characters, the post will save. If it’s more, the post will not save.

I’ve tried disabling plugins, but nothing works. I feel like it might be a PHP setting, as both installations (which have different themes/plugins) have the same issue. Any ideas?

  • Which PageBuilder / Editor do you use to write posts?

Do you have any error messages regarding this from the moment of saving? So both in front of you and in log files?

Are there any abnormalities under Tools > Site Health?

I’m not using a page builder — only vanilla Gutenberg. We don’t get any errors when trying to save, either on the front end or in the error log. It looks like it did save, but it’s blank when I preview the post. If I then go back to the edit screen and refresh, the text is gone. Keep in mind that this only happens if the text is longer than 16,222 characters.

The only abnormalities in the Site Health screen is a warning that files cannot be uploaded, but we’ve turned that off. Also, I don’t think that would impact the issue I’m facing, but correct me if I’m wrong.

I can’t reproduce this on my end. I have generated a text at https://www.loremipsum.de with 20000 characters. I inserted it in the Block Editor – this created several paragraph blocks. Everything ok. Then I published this page. It is saved normally.

Does the text you saved contain any special characters? Formatting? Are you copying and pasting it from somewhere? What kind of blocks are created? Can you provide the text you used?
