    Hi Site Kit Team,

I keep getting this error from the Site Kit plugin while trying to complete the setup process:
“DevTools failed to load source map: Could not load content for https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/ww.js.map: Fetch through target failed: Target not supported; Fallback: HTTP error: status code 404, net::ERR_HTTP_RESPONSE_CODE_FAILURE”.

This error was on step 2 of the setup process and after finally getting past step 2, I saw the same error message from “DevTools” on step 3. When I tried to open the link “https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/ww.js.map”, it gave me the HTTP error code, 404.

I completed the Site Kit plugin setup process with no errors on a different website that was also hosted on the same platform with a similar setup.

Please let me know if any further details are required. Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out @nextechglobalmarketing, and sorry to hear you’ve been unable to complete Site Kit set up on this specific site. So we can determine more on this, and ensure you can complete set up, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. A screen recording of your experience (with your developer tools open). You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share a screen recording, while using the same form to share this privately.?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Once we have this information we can propose some checks. From the errors details you kindly shared it’s possible there may be some a misconfiguration of your site URLs impacting set up.

Many thanks for sharing this additional information. Based on the recording, please share the following,

    1. Does the same occur if you reset Site Kit (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit) and attempt set up once more? This will clear your site records, which may be leading to the 404 page.
    2. As I noticed a couple of migration plugins, can you share if you set up Site Kit previously on this site before a migration, or from a different domain or wp-admin path? I ask as some of the records for your site may already exist on the Site Kit service, with the current URL not matching those records.
    3. Can you complete Site Kit set up from this temporary testing site? This can help rule out local or browser related features impacting set up.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi James,

Thank you so much for your help. The issue is resolved now.

Step 3 gave me the solution. I received the same error on the temporary testing site. It seems my browser cached something from the previous setup. Completing the Site Kit setup in the incognito tab fixed it.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the update @nextechglobalmarketing, and great to hear that setting up incognito allowed you to proceed. If you have any further Site Kit queries be sure to get in touch. If you have a moment free please also consider sharing your plugin feedback. Best of luck.
