First, thanks for the plugin! We have close to 500 sites we have been upgrading and linking this past month, however several sites still show the old UA tag in the dashboard despite having a linked v4 account in the sitekit dashboard. In these cases we are unable to select the v4 tag as the primary linked account and need to completely reset sitekit. Is there a path, or will sitekit promote v4 tags automatically post July 1st without having to completely reset sitekit? Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out @sashman13, and thank you for using the plugin!

With regards the sites you manage that are showing Universal Analytics (UA) data in the Site Kit dashboard this can be changed at any time from within the Analytics settings in Site Kit (as long as these sites are using Site Kit 1.103.0). You’ll find the setting to switch to show Google Analytics 4 (GA4) data at “Site Kit >Settings > Connected Services > Analytics > Dashboard View:

In these cases we are unable to select the v4 tag as the primary linked account and need to completely reset sitekit.

Can you share details on what happens when you try to switch the Dashboard view to GA4, or are you encountering problems when trying to add a GA4 property via Site Kit? When connecting or editing the Analytics module, users must select a GA4 property, so if you’re facing any errors let me know and I’d be happy to investigate this further. You may even wish to share your Site Health information for one such impacted site, including any details such as screenshots or a recording in the same form.

Thanks for the reply. Will the UA tag be removed automatically or is this something that will happen in the google tag manager? Ideally, we don’t want the old tag used or showing up at all.

We don’t get the Dashboard View either on the analytics display or edit page on sites with the issue. We turned tracking on and can supply screenshots.

Great question! If you’re using Site Kit to place your UA snippet, this snippet will remain optional for some time via the Analytics setting within the plugin. It won’t be tracking new visitors after the sunset period.

If you’re using Tag Manager to add UA to your site, I expect it would be the same. The tag may remain present, but it won’t be registering new hits after the sunset period.

You can remove the Tag from within Tag Manager and ensure you don’t have a UA snippet placed via Site Kit to ensure there are no UA snippets placed or no UA tags.

Sorry to hear that. If you’d like to share your Site Health information for one of these sites I’d be happy to check. Feel free to include screenshots or a recording within that form.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
