I bought a domain with domain.com. Then decided to use WordPress to create my website because everything I read said it’s the easiest and you don’t need any prior knowledge.

I was able to access my account and started to add a background colour, logo and title.

Then I was asked to update to WordPress 6.2.2. When I click automatic update I received an error message. Since then I wake up to emails from WordPress saying to please update to 6.2.2.

Auto Update will not work. So I’ve looked at the instructions for a manual update and quite honestly I might as well be reading ancient greek. I haven’t got a clue what anything means.

After reading and reading and reading I’ve finally managed to download and unzip the update files for 6.2.2.
But have no idea what I’m supposed to do with them. None of it makes sense.
I’ve deleted all plugins. Not that I even know what they are lol.

There is so much assumed knowledge – I thought it was meant to be easy.

And Now I can’t even log in to my WordPress dashboard.
    See below

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

So in all my playing around I’ve obviously done something that’s messed the whole thing up.

Is there anyway to delete what I have and start again?

  • Delete all files from public_html folder, then install wordpress again.

Thanks Ruhul, There are no files in it.

public_html just has a folder in called cgi-bin which has a folder in called tmp. But there are no files in any of them.

    Hi,

are you still getting those emails?

If the public_html folder is empty then you shouldn’t be getting any and you can start over again.

The Internal Server Error way likely caused because there is nothing in the public_html folder. When there is nothing in the web-folder, the webserver doesn’t have anything to do and thus throws this error.

Thank you. I managed to start over. I still get a daily email asking me to upgrade but I’ve been advised to ignore them.

Your webhost should be able to figure out where these emails come from
