• Hi,

I’m new to the forums and so apologise is this isn’t posted in exactly the right place, and offer thanks in advance for any help given.

In short, I’ve been running a WordPress personal blog for several years now, but suffered a number of malicious attacks earlier this year, meaning I’ve had to delete the whole site and rebuild from scratch. I’d now like to import the contents of my old SQL database into a new SQL database which already contains some posts. I’m using mySQL as the backend through myserverworld.net. Is this possible and, if so, does anyone know how I go about doing this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Julian

  • You’d be better off exporting post from the old blog and then importing them into the new one – especially if the WP versions are different.

Thanks for the quick response. I actually have the posts exported as an .sql file. What I don’t know how to do is import these into the new blog. Is there an easy way to do this?

You can’t import a pre 3.0 .sql dump into a 3.0 database. There have been database changes in WP 3.0.

I don’t know if this is bad etiquette…
But I’m quitting myserverworld.net because I’ve been having one attack after another and concluded that most probably the server is not safe (caveat: I’m no expert, but I’ve been through the process a few times, put in place all recommendations and regularly get hit).
Julian, I’m not 100% sure if you mean that you’re also leaving myserverworld or joining them.
Could you clear that point for me?
Thanks and I really hope I’m not interfearing.
