Okay, so we’ve installed a blog. Of course, we have the day and name peramlink selected (domain.com/index.php/2010/09/19/sample-post/).

Links to posts on the homepage work all fine and dandy. However, category, author pages, wordpress pages, basically everything else, do not work unless we use the ugly permalinks (domain.com/index.php?cat=ID, domain.com/index.php?author=ID, domain.com/index.php?page_id=ID).

We’ve tried changing permalinks settings, disabling plugins…We are absolutely clue less on what to do.

It wouldn’t be so bad if all of the non-posts links shown through WordPress (such as an author link on the post) lead to the pretty permalink didn’t work.

  • Unless you provide a link to a page demonstrating the problem, no one will be able to offer much in the way of specific help.

    This page works: [link removed]
The author (click the author’s name to go here: [link removed]) comes up as a blank page. However, if you try to access the author page via [link removed] it works…

Sorry I didn’t include that earlier.

Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and deleting/renaming your WordPress .htaccess file. If this works, then set a custom permalink structure back up again.

Thanks esmi…I went to go and deleted it and noticed the server never had one. So, apparently, it isn’t allowed. I’m doing this for a friend and am not quite familiar with their server. So, I guess the absence of the .htaccess and the fact that I cannot add one is what is causing the problems.
