    Hi there,

I have the second website that was inaccessible because the ithemes plugin breaks the .htaccess file.

I read the other thread on this, but I am not yet willing to follow the workaround. Instead I report my experience and how I fixed it. With the question added, if this fix is making the site vulnerable?

So, if the site is not accessible, I comment out following code in the .htaccess file and the site works again. I got that tip form my hosting provider…

    #	<IfModule mod_authz_core.c>
    # <RequireAll>
    # Order allow,deny
    # Allow from all
    # Deny from env=DenyAccess
    # </RequireAll>
    #	</IfModule>

What are the implications of doing so? Is the site now vulnerable?

    Thanks & Cheers,
    Alex

    Hello @alframe

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Although commenting out that line might not cause harm. I’ll suggest regenerating the .htaccess?file to be certain it’s not corrupted. Here are the steps:

Please read this guide to assist in regenerating the .htaccess?file:?https://help.ithemes.com/hc/en-us/articles/211132357-Frequently-Seen-Support-Issues#500serverErrors.

Please let me know if it helps.

    Best regards
    Shalom

    Hi @shalomt,

    Thanks for the advice.

I did regenerate the .htaccess file as described in the article. But when I compare the old file with the regenerated one, the commented section remains commented.

Since you say that it isn’t a security issue to leave the lines commented out, I will leave it like this, until it becomes a problem again. Hoping that this will be fixed in a future releases.

    Thanks,
    Alex

EDIT: In fact, if I save the .htacces file empty and follow the permalink procedure, the file remains empty after saving the permalinks.

The article on iThemes help page, which sounds related to my problem, is not reachable: https://ithemes.com/forum/index.php?/topic/18445-restored-site-now-wont-load-and-cant-log-in/#p86642

After logging in I get the main support portal.

So yeah, I have a working site, with the lines commented out and I don’t understand the problem. So as said above, I will let it be for now.
