The last two versions of this plug-in reported that they were not tested with version 6.2.2 of WordPress. I generally do not update plug-ins that do not report compatibility with the most recent version that I’m running.

Has anyone updated this plug-in with WP 6.2.2? If so, did you experience problems?

When can we look for an update to this plug-in that is tested on 6.2.2?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

I can understand your point, I can for now it is tested up to WordPress 6.2.0.

This is aligned with the requirements of the plugin, that you can review here: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-square/#section-1

While I don’t have the exact ETA for this, please note the plugin team is working to make sure to keep compatibility with the latest WordPress updates.

    Hope this helps.

Today’s released update is still not compatible with WP 6.2.2. This is the fourth release that is not tested with this WP version (current). For those of us who do not update plug-ins unless they are tested with our WP version, it means we aren’t able to keep our payment module up to date.

I really hope this will be addressed on the next update.

    Howdy @earmsbyhpc ??

Thank you for contacting Woo support!

Just to clarify, the WooCommerce Square plugin is compatible with version 6.2.2 of WordPress (a security release, to be precise).

Furthermore, from the plugin’s changelog it is apparent that minor versions (Wikipedia article linked here) are noted for compatibility, not patches.

Rest easy, as the team here is using daily the latest (or experimental) versions of our software, in order to ensure compatibility and troubleshoot any issues that might arise in merchant’s websites.

That said, just to clarify, are you experiencing any problems currently?

Please let us know if you have any further questions about this matter, or if we misinterpret your concern in any way.

We will be happy to help you further.

Thanks for your reply. I’m still a little confused.

    The plug-in says this:

    WordPress Version: 5.8 or higher
    Tested up to: 6.2.0

But you are saying “Just to clarify, the WooCommerce Square plugin is compatible with version 6.2.2” I’m confused why the plug-in says it is only tested up to 6.2.0, then.

I don’t understand what you mean by “it is apparent that minor versions (Wikipedia article linked here) are noted for compatibility, not patches” In any case, I’m not seeing anything in the changelog that says anything about the WP version.

    >> That said, just to clarify, are you experiencing any problems currently?

No, I am not experiencing problems because I make it a practice not to update plug-ins unless they report that they have been tested with the version of WP I am running, which is 6.2.2. While I’m not having problems running an older version of the WooCommerce Square plugin, I’d prefer to use the most current version of the plug-in for security and functionality reasons.

    Hello @earmsbyhpc,

With each update, many bugs are fixed so I wouldn’t recommend using an older version of the extension just because the team didn’t update the text on the front page of the plugin. :?)

We’ve already reported this to the developers for a few extensions we support, but considering this is not really an issue/bug it might not be prioritised.

For your peace of mind, consider creating a staging environment and updating the plugin there before pushing the changes to the live site. Most hosting solutions offer a staging solution with their plan but you can also use a plugin WP-STAGING.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
