• I have tried getting MailPress working on WP 3.0 and 3.0.1 to no avail. I even did a fresh WP install and left the default theme with no other plugins installed and still it didn’t work. Not sure why. I swear I have tried every possible setup. Andre Renault, the creator, contacted me in response to a forum post and kindly offered to help, but even he was unable to get it working. I am on a GoDaddy server, a very popular/capable server/company that should not hinder anything. I have tried it with a GoDaddy email account and a gmail account…. SMTP, PHP & POP settings…. with add ons and without.

Andre did suggest deactivating the following plugins due to conflicts: wp-responder & wp-mail-smtp. (I was trying anything I could find.)

He then tried to send a mail with smtp and gmail settings and got this in the logs :

Connection could not be established with host smtp.gmail.com [Connection timed out #110]

    and

WARNING: fsockopen() [ function.fsockopen [function.fsockopen] ]: unable to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 (Connection timed out) in …/WP/WP-CONTENT/PLUGINS/MAILPRESS/MP-INCLUDES/SWIFTMAILER/CLASSES/SWIFT/TRANSPORT/STREAMBUFFER.PHP on line 233

    He then said the following:

1.) Tried to send a mail with php mail and it worked

2.) Bounce settings are set for gmail but as the sender might not be gmail (see php mail settings in php.ini) this will not work as intended.

I am unclear about #2. Is it working or not? What do you mean “gmail
might not be the real sender?”

What am I looking for in php.ini. I spoke to GoDaddy and they
suggested I change the name of the php.ini file to php5.ini.

Does anyone have any advice? Agree? Disagree? Know of an alternative. I am growing desperate.

I upgraded to PHP5 a while ago, which I think Mailpress 5 requires. Perhaps that was when it stopped working. I was in a development phase, so I assumed it was still working, but went to launch my site and low and behold I can’t get it working to save my life. My client is livid and I have no idea what to do. Mailpress doesn’t seem to have any viable competition/alternatives for use with WordPress and now I have no idea what to do.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I can not believe that it is this hard to get a plug in working that is the only real choice for mail services with WordPress, if not only, at least the industry standard. I needed to launch our site weeks ago and now, because of this, I can not, because none of my forms will send the emails they need to when a user submits them without MailPress working.

I have been very frustrated working with WordPress in general, actually. Upgrading to 3.0.1 seemed to cause more problems than it fixed. I am going to consider using Joomla or Drupal instead for my next project. I was so enthusiastic about WordPress early on, but its seems like it has been one issue after the next, weeks have turned into months and my client has gone from excited to exasperated/livid, as have I.

    Thoughts?

    At a loss

  • Get off of using Go Daddy. Bet this solves it if you host your site elsewhere.

2 months ago? No real resolutions offered, aside from ditching godaddy.
Everything I read and done showing that mailpress and wordpress are no longer compatible. this is not news to those of us whov’e been usin g them for years
Indeed I just got them working when the latest wordpress upgrade killed them again.Sigh, this is like a lemon, works less as opposed to more.
I’ve been to the wordpress mailpress google group where frankly the only thing useful they say is there is a known bug and do not use automatic upgrade, which i did not, i copied the files using ftp and still it do’t work, frankly this is really cramping what little style i had
Damn unreliable, this is. All I need is for the mailserver I paid for to share the load with my wisp email server, less than a hundred newsletters per day!

sorry for the typos, I am bedside with my father typing on my netbook
As a professional wifi installer and trouble shooter I know the the shear quantity of settings I have changed make my installation damn near unrepairable and if something does fix it I may not know what happened unless i get a really good tip, and uninstall the plugin starting from scratch

did you ask godaddy tech support ?

I have a problem with Mailpress altering URL’s in posts and turning them into useless junk.

I’d like to use MailPress to submit posts to my Posterous account for promotion to other Web 2.0 properties, but the effect is lost when Mailpress distorts the URL.

I was unable to determine how you actually get support for the plugin and entered a message in Community Portal. I have not received a reply yet, and it has been 2 days and my message is still in Community Portal.

I have no real use for plugins that do strange things and have no support, so now I’m searching for a plugin that will email posts that does exactly that and nothing else.
