    Hello,

    I have issue when I want to set up SiteKit. However, It goes to 404 page (https://astronomyhubs.com/404-page/) after clicking Verify button.

    Previously I was using SiteKit in different domain name, was astronomhub.com but now I’ve changed my domain name to astronomyhubs.com.

    I added Google Tags in my websites header, it works in Google Analytics but I couldn’t activate SiteKit plugin because of the issue as I mentioned. Need your help.

    Sincerely
    Astronomy Hub

    Thanks for getting in touch?@astronomhub. I see you also shared your Site Health information. Based on the description of your error what I suspect may be happening is Site Kit is providing you with an incorrect callback, refencing the previous domain before it was moved or migrated.

    To attempt to connect Site Kit with your new domain, please add an extra character to your site title temporarily, such as an underscore?(Settings > General > Site Title). This change prompts Site Kit to collect fresh data for your current site). After doing so please attempt Site Kit set up once more.

    If the same occurs after performing the check above, please share the following:

    1. What is the full URL you see when you land back on the 404 page? I ask as it may contain some references to your old site URL. If so, you can manually correct this with your current domain before continuing.
    2. Do you see any warnings or errors when checking yourSite Health status (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.

    Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi James,
    Thank you for answering. I changed the site title, but it still gave the same error. When I click on Verify it redirects me to https://astronomyhubs.com/404-error/. (https://imgur.com/a/KcG4zNs)

    I checked Site Health status. This is the result (https://imgur.com/a/JbBvxHI)

    Best regards

    Appreciate you sharing the additional insights, and sorry to hear that didn’t allow you to complete set up. As I don’t see the full URL on the 404 page from the screenshots you provided, I can’t check the callback URL. Can you share the address from your browsers address bar when you land back on the 404 page? If this includes a site reference to your old URL (astronomhub.com) you can manually change this before proceeding. This may allow you to complete set up. Please let me know how you get on with this.

    If the same occurs, or if you don’t see any old site URL reference in your browsers address bar, we can then perform some additional checks. One of those would be to reset Site Kit on your old site if you still have access to this.

    When I click on Verify it redirects to the 404 page of my new website. (https://astronomyhubs.com/404-page/).

    My old domain name (astronomhub.com) is still active but I have moved my website to my new domain name. (astronomyhubs.com)

    Thanks for the update @astronomhub. Based on the very useful information you provided I’ll request a reset of your site records on the Site Kit service. This may take a few days as it’s not something I can do myself. I don’t have any other workaround unfortunately. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I have an update on this. Thank you!

    No problem, happy to assist. Hopefully I’ll have an update for you on this at some stage this week.

    I tried a new method. When I change the name of my site to https://astronomyhubs.com from my site’s settings, I can install SiteKit. But when I make my site name https://astronomyhubs.com from the settings again, it gives the same error.

    Thanks for the update @astronomhub. If you’re referring to your site address as opposed to site name, there may have been some old site records now registered against your new site (with https), resulting in the error. Your non secure site (http) may be considered as a new site during set up, allowing you to proceed. I can check this with the team as soon as I hear back from your site check.

    If you prefer not to wait, you may wish to perform the steps below:

    1. Change your site title once more (Settings > General > Site title). You can add an underscore or make any change you wish.
    2. Add the below constants to your wp-config.php file. Replace the asterisk values to anything you like. We have more information on the below added to the plugin website.
      define( 'GOOGLESITEKIT_ENCRYPTION_KEY', '****' );
      define( 'GOOGLESITEKIT_ENCRYPTION_SALT', '****' );
    3. Save your wp-config.php file and attempt Site Kit set up once more.

    Let me know if you need any assistance with the above.

    Does it matter what values I give instead of asterisks?

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

    @astronomhub No, it doesn’t matter what values you provide. After you add the constants, and before you attempt Site Kit setup once more, please also perform a reset of the plugin on this site (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit).

    I have tried but nothing has changed. Not even Verify page opened. It directly went to 404 page.

    Appreciate you sharing this and performing these checks. In that case let’s wait until your site records are reviewed. As mentioned I suspect your callback URL refers to your old site setup, therefore this URL can’t be found when directing back to your site (resulting in the 404 page).

    I’ll let you know as soon as I have an update on this.

    Thanks for your patience on this @astronomhub, much appreciated. I heard word back from a check on your site records, and nothing unusual stood out. They did state that it looks like your wp-admin path has been changed, and this may have been changed after your first set up attempt on this site.

    To troubleshoot this further, can you revert to the standard wp-admin path and attempt Site Kit set up once more. This may mean temporarily deactivating your WPS Hide Login plugin, or any other plugin which can rename your wp-admin path.
