changing from subdomains to subdirectories

Hello. I have multiple single blogs using subdomains of the same domain and I am about to move them all to WordPress Multiuser (setting up a network). Since the subdomains are considered by search engines separate websites, I would prefer to use the subdirectory structure in the multisite install. Is that correct to assume that Google will see my new site as a single site?
