Lost with WP Multisite Sub-Domain Setup

    Hello,

    I just moved my blog from one webhost to another and I want to add another site using a sub-domain. I followed the instructions to setup a network and the main site is working fine.

    Added a sub-domain, wildcard, created a new MySQL DB and created a new site under the Super Admin panel. Where I’m lost is where/how do I tell WP to create the necessary tables and populate the blog under the sub-domain. When I navigate to the sub-domain, I just get a directory listing.

    Am I supposed to copy all the 3.01 files into the sub-directory and run the install or something else?

    Right, I did as I mentioned in original post – but when I click on Backend I get a 500 error. (Edit works fine). It doesn’t appear to be the sub-domain itself since typing it directly into the browser displays the directory listing.

    Where should I be looking to fix this. I’m still not clear whether I’m supposed to upload the WP install files into the sub-directory.

    If you have a ‘backend’ link to click on from Super Admin -> Sites, then you have created the site.

    Howver, if you made a physical subdirectory, you need to delete that ?? the subfolder is virtual, you see.

    DO NOT install ANYTHING in a subdirectory. Re-read Esmi’s link. You create your site, you turn on networking, you create a sub site from INSIDE WP ?? no messing about with the folders.

    No, you do not need to move files.
    Do not put a physical folder on the server.

    Subdomains work on the basis of *wildcard subdomains*. It’s mentioned in the codex link you read. It also says to ask your webhost if they support it. did you?

    Thanks for the responses, the problem was I created a sub-domain and did the wildcard. Wasn’t aware WP did the trickery internally. Once I deleted the static sub-domain – the site came up.

    Unfortunately, it appears two of my plugins that work on the main site break in sub-domain (they spit out nasty PH warnings).

    Looks like I have some work to do. Thanks for your responses.
