Frustrated with Themes

Amen.

I believe an effort regarding a central depository of themes and a nice organization therein is underway.

Similar to the soon-to-be-much-easier-to-use https://wp-plugins.org

You are entitled to your opinion certainly but I would suggest you’re are in an extreme minority. The fact there are so many themes being created only serve to display how popular the 1.5 version is.

Please organize the themes for single, double and three columns. Develope a standard for each of these three and establish those as “Themes”.

Every list I have seen plainly delineate the number of columns. There is a “standard” they are called “default” and “classic” and come bundled with 1.5

Please discourage the flood of themes that are nothing more than a different banner picture and background color.

How do you discourage creativity?

Besides those that only change backgrounds and banners aren’t “themes,” just someone’s idea of improvments to the theme they have chosen to use.

ryan – can mods of existing themes be hosted there? or completely original ones?

Banners and Backgrounds do represent “Creativity” and I enjoy seeing what others have done but my concern is the number of “Theme” listings that are using the same templates. Perhaps “Templates” would be a better word.

Please direct me to a theme that incorporates 3 columns and looks something like this or this.

I have “Bricks” and “Journalized Sand” but neither of these is anything like the example.

Nice examples Jabbok – I’ve thought about doing something similar for my review site, but I found three columns posisbly too much I may still do it, but good examples and fair comments. Though I think the two themes you mention can be modified to look like your examples with some work, isn’t that part of the fun?

If I wasn’t 48 years old and could remember where I left my carkeys it would be fun! The word PHP sounds like a prostate exam to me. As soon as I figure one thing out, I forget what I was supposed to do with it.

Any theme that is licensed under the GPL or a GPL compatible license can be hosted there. If you are adapting someone else’s theme, that theme must be GPL or GPL compatible. We don’t subject themes to an originality test. I’ve seen several good themes start off as a color scheme tweak to an existing theme and grow from there.

BTW, stylesheet and image changes to a theme can be packaged as a stylesheet-only theme that inherits the templates from the original theme.
