Thanks for your question and for taking the time to find the earlier topic that covers the subject in some detail.

You can use the MLA Insert Fixit example plugin to copy the current ALT Text values from your Media Library items to the page/post content that contains “inserted items”, i.e., links to the item(s). Here are the steps to follow:

    1. Navigate to the Settings/Media library Assistant Documentation tab and click the “Example Plugins” button. You will see a submenu that lists all the example plugins and gives you a “one-click” action for installing them.
    2. Type “fixit” into the search box and click “Search Plugins”. You are looking for “MLA Insert Fixit” plugin.
    3. Find that plugin and hover over the title in the left-most column. Click the “Install” rollover action to add it to your site.
    4. Navigate to the WordPress Plugins/Installed Plugins submenu
    5. Find the “MLA Insert Fixit” plugin and activate it.
    6. Navigate to the Tools/Insert Fixit screen.
    7. Scroll down to the “Copy ALT Text between Media Library items and Post/Page inserts” tool.
    8. You can click the “ALT from item” tool to apply it to all of your posts/pages, or you can use the “First Post/Page ID” and “Last Post/Page ID” text boxes at the top of the screen to test it out on one or a few of your posts.

I hope that gets you started on a solution for your application. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it you have problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. Thanks for your interest in the plugin(s).

    David,

Thank you for your plugin, time and instructions.

Unfortunately, when I ran it, it came up with a 405 Not Allowed Error.

There are about 40,000 ALT image records to update.

Do you have any idea what would be causing the issue or where should I look to resolve.

    Thanks

Thanks for giving the example plugin a try. I regret that it’s not working for you.

I have never seen a “405” error with this plugin. It looks like some sort of hosting problem. If the actual message is “Method Not Allowed” it might be coming from WordPress but I do not see exactly how or where.

If you do an internet search for “http 405 wordpress” you will see many articles that suggest solutions. Some of them require significant work, but here is one simple solution you can try:

    wp-comments-post – HTTP ERROR 405

Here is one typical article example:

Fixing the 405 Method Not Allowed Error on WordPress

Other articles suggest looking at the “Site Health” report; you can find that on the admin mode Dashboard.

You can try one other experiment to see if the problem is specific to the “ALT from item” tool. Try scrolling to the bottom of the MLA Insert Fixit page and clicking the “Refresh Caches” tool. If that works, try the “ALT from item” tool again within a few minutes.

40,000 records is a significant number and may require more server memory and/or script running time. Those issues should give a different error message though.

Your best course of action is to contact the support team at your web hosting company and see if they can give you more information from the site error log and some ideas on how to fix the problem. If I can help, they can contact me at my web site and I will do what I can.

Thanks for your understanding and your patience.

You are welcome. If you do find anything in MLA or the example plugin that needs addressing, post an update here and I will investigate further. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
