• Hi,
Is there a way I can change the portfolio page template in mobile view?
I love the masonry grid layout it gives on the desktop homepage but on tablet and mobile the images are stacked one on top of the other. Can any settings be changed or any code be inserted so that I get a similar masonry grid view layout with smaller thumbnails?
    Thanks in advance,
    Florie

  • Hey Florie,

It may be possible with some CSS, although it would be tricky to apply that on a mobile view, and I’m not sure how much would be to gain there from SEO perspective (i.e. responsive and usability).

Out of curiosity, why are you looking to make this change?

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for your input. I just much prefer the look of the masonry grid layout rather than having to scroll through a long line of single images. If smaller thumbnails can work for Instagram, then why not a website gallery?

    Hey there,

    Fair enough!

Instagram doesn’t use a masonry grid, but instead a gallery where the thumbnails are of an equal size. Are you looking to replicate Instagram in that sense?

Do you have a link to the page you’re working on?

No, not at all; I would want masonry grid, not a gallery with equal sized thumbnails.

    My website is https://www.lovewhiterabbit.co.uk

    Hey there,

Got it, so because of the nature of a masonry grid, this would essentially be the end result:

And this is because the items are randomly generated upon refresh.

    I hope this helps.

How come that looks so different from the desktop version masonry grid? If I changed it to not be randomly generated, would that change the layout?

    Hello there,

How come that looks so different from the desktop version masonry grid?

The theme wasn’t designed to show a masonry grid on a mobile, and this is a requirement that’s not something natively possibly with this theme.

If I changed it to not be randomly generated, would that change the layout?

Potentially, yes, but in order to this, custom development would be needed and you would to locate a developer to make this possible. It would be out of scope for the support that’s possible.

The developer could also tweak the design to suit the changes they’re making.

I hope this is useful knowledge going forward.
