Attributes checkbox ‘used for variations’ are checked by default

I have a shop where all the products has a lot of attributes. But the checkbox ‘used for variations’ is now checked by default… It has not been like that before, so I think it must have happened in a recent update. (anyone else having this issue?)

But since I have a lot of attributes that is used only for filtering and NOT for variations I wish to have it back to unchecked, so I can check it when I need to.

Or is there maybe a workaround?
