how many server do we need for migration?

  • Hello,

    If we need use the orignal domain for the migrated site after migrating, would you please let me know if the following step is right?

    1# Original site is on server A

    2# Create new wordpress site on server B.

    3# Migrate all data from Server A to Server B.

    4# Find replace site domain on Server B?

    5# Set domain DNS to the ip on Server B?

    Is that right?

    Or,

    6# do we need create a new site on Server C, and set domain DNS to the ip on Server C, and then migrate data from server B to server C?

    So, do we need step 6 please ? or, any suggestions?

    Hi @alexliii,

    If you are planning to move the domain immediately after the migration, then I think it would be easier to not do any ‘Find and Replace’ during the migration. Simply –

    1# Original site is on server A
    2# Create new wordpress site on server B.
    3# Migrate all data from Server A to Server B.
    (make sure nothing is changed)
    4# Set domain DNS to the ip on Server B

    If the migration went smoothly, then everything should work correctly after the domain switch.
