On our website (bruckerbrothersltd.com), the gallery created by the “Image and Video Gallery from Google Drive” plugin for WordPress constantly loses the ability to access our Google Drive, resulting in a “unknown error” message on our gallery page instead of displaying pictures. We can reactivate the gallery manually by revoking then granting permission (see attached images), but the gallery goes down again within a few hours after permissions are reset.

We installed this plugin in March 2023. We should be using a current version (2.13.0). We think we have the app created at Google Cloud set correctly (see attached images) as the gallery does work for a while once permissions are reset.

What is happening to break the connection between this plugin and Google Drive? How do we fix this problem?

    Hi,
is this by any chance happening every 7 days? Recently, Google has changed the way apps work and they have this time-out. On our side, there is nothing we can do about that, unfortunately. However, there is a solution – in the Google app console, you have to mark the app as either internal or public – then the token should last indefinitely.

    Hope this helps,
    Marek

This disconnect between the plugin and Google Drive is happening within an hour, not 7 days. And In the Google app console, I cannot change the User Type to Internal or Public (External is the only option available to us, other options are grayed out). Any other ideas?

    Update:
We tried connecting the plugin to a different (paid) Google account, one where we were able to change the User Type in a newly created app to Internal, but the “unknown error” message replaced the gallery on our website again within the first hour. The token does not last indefinitely.

Hmm, that’s really strange. Could you please enable WordPress debugging? That should also show gallery errors beyond just “Unknown error” – maybe that’ll tell us more…

    Thanks,
    Marek

Last week, we enabled WordPress debugging and reinstalled the “Image and Video Gallery from Google Drive” plugin on our website. The image gallery worked well for about six days, then the following error replaced the gallery: { “error”: “invalid_grant”, “error_description”: “Token has been expired or revoked.” }. We have a “debug.log” file as well, but there is no simple way to attach files here.

    Hi,
that is really strange, however, you’re not the only person reporting this as of recently – I suspect Google changed something about authorization (they do it frequently and without warning :().

If I understand this correctly, you have currently marked the app as “Public”? In that case, maybe try reinstalling the plugin to make sure the old tokens get completely removed.

Also, please send me the debug log at [email protected], I’ll take a look.

    Thanks,
    Marek

Hi. Mine started getting unknown error after a few hours. The debug log says that the refresh token is not being passed or being set. Plug-in works fine on another site of mine with exactly the same settings.

refresh token must be passed in or set as part of setAccessToken
