• I can no longer access my dashboard via the usual link since transferring my domain hosting to Jolt last month and my site has disappeared from my www.remarpro.com account when I log in.

Have I lost my site content?

Hopefully someone can help here ??

  • The login to your own WordPress-powered website is not in any way linked to your www.remarpro.com account. The two have nothing in common, so you won’t find your website in your www.remarpro.com account.

And I don’t see any WordPress installation on the domain you provided.

You said “transferred my domain hosting”. What specific steps did you take?

In particular, have you installed WordPress at your new host (Jolt) and imported your existing site from your old host?

It seems you only transferred the domain (or pointed it) to the new host, but you didn’t actually transfer the website content from the old host to the new host.

I’ll recommend you get in touch with your NEW host to have this sorted.

You said “transferred my domain hosting”. What specific steps did you take? – I did not take any steps other than sign up with Jolt. They assured me the domain would be transferred across to them seamlessly. I’m not very website tech savvy so assumed my WordPress content would also be transferred in the process.

In particular, have you installed WordPress at your new host (Jolt) and imported your existing site from your old host? – I am waiting for my new host to confirm if they have installed www.remarpro.com for me. How do I import my existing site from my old host?

I’m presuming I won’t be able to login to my WordPress dashboard until Jolt have installed www.remarpro.com on my domain?

Something may have been lost in translation there: transferring a domain and transferring a website are two totally different things.

How do I import my existing site from my old host?

Your content is with your old host (www.remarpro.com doesn’t host any user website data). Assuming you still have access to your OLD hosting account, then here’s the easiest solution:

    1) Temporarily POINT your domain back to your old host (you don’t need to TRANSFER it, just POINT it to their servers)

    2) When you’re able to access your original site again, login to the WordPress dashboard and use a WordPress migration plugin to create and download a backup of the entire site

    3) Point your domain back to your NEW host, install a fresh WordPress site (if you don’t have this already), install the same backup plugin you used to create the backup, and use the plugin to upload and restore the backup you created.

If you’re unable or unwilling to temporarily point your domain to your OLD host, you can still transfer your site… but it becomes somewhat complicated. In a nutshell, you’ll have to manually move your site’s files AND database between the two hosts, but the exact steps to follow will depend on what tools the two hosts provide in their user control panel.

I’m presuming I won’t be able to login to my WordPress dashboard until Jolt have installed www.remarpro.com on my domain?

Yes, without a WordPress installation, there’s no WordPress site or dashboard to login to.

Thank you for your help George.

Will I need to point my domain back to my old host if I already an automatic backup plugin installed prior to the domain transfer?

Sorry for the late response: life got in the way ??

If you have a backup of your site created with this “automatic backup plugin”, then, NO, you don’t need to point the domain back. You simply need to install the same backup plugin at the new host, and use it to upload and restore the previously-created backup.

On the other hand, if you merely installed the plugin but you never configured or used it to back up the site, then, YES, you’ll need to point the domain back to the old host (if your account is still active), and use the plugin to generate a backup of your site.
