• I am writing here as I have had no constructive help from Astra Support. I have used the Astra Theme with the Directories Pro plugin for a long time without a problem until the theme was updated earlier this year.

    The problem that arose and persists is that if someone uses Directories Pro search they never receive a result. In effect an infinite loop is created where the result being searched returns a “not found” response, even when it should, but instead of ending it repeats the search over and over again until the server returns a 500 time out.

    Astra support has accepted that the theme is the problem (see below) as switching to a default theme resolves the problem and agrees this has only happened since their theme update. However, there does not appear to be any hope of a correction. They no longer respond to the error notice and even made the most stupid suggestion that I should disable the plugin and test it. How anyone could suggest disabling a plugin and testing it is beyond me. Disabled the search option would not exist.

    Considering how much time is spent promoting this theme and it’s pro version which is being used I would have hoped there would be programmers who could at least track down the cause based on the changes made to the code when the theme was updated or if nothing else provide me with a pre-update copy so that I could roll back the theme to when it worked. But no! Nothing! Nada!

    This was the reply from their support on the 14th of February:

    “It seems like there is some conflict with the Directories plugin. We have added a task for it and have forwarded it to the developers. They will check all the dependencies and if they found any issues, they’ll surely fix that in our upcoming updates.”

    I would have thought by now a resolution should have been found. This also causes server problems affecting other sites on the same hosting package as the time outs slow everything down.

    I am hoping this might prompt some action.

    This is the ticket number Ticket No 301374

    It was never resolved and I have now replaced Astra with a different theme to enable the website to function correctly. Eventually, and too late, they did provide me with a means of replacing the most up to date version of Astra with a pre-update option but by that time I had replaced the Theme and was not going to waste more time replacing a working theme with an outdated Astra copy with no guarantee that the bug was ever going to be resolved.

    The ticket with Astra is now closed.
