Generally web page links work well.

But social media links, like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube either bring up an error or have problems displaying the preview as expected.

Is this a bug, or a feature that can be added?

    Thanks

Could you give me an example of a link that’s not working for you?

    https://www.facebook .com/ watch/?v=820739529165952

And Youtube videos don’t generate a preview of the description. It just shows the last part of the url eg watch=?fkjfhlkflskj

(I added a space in the urls above to prevent the embedding in this message)

Thanks for the examples! We make use of the MicroLink API to get those details and it looks like they are having trouble with the Twitter link: https://microlink.io/meta?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Frichard_tabor%2Fstatus%2F1641384129735561220

When I follow that Facebook link in incognito mode, it prompts me to login, which is also what the generated summary shows, so that seems normal.

So unfortunately it looks like the API won’t work as well for these kind of examples. You do always have the ability to manually set the title and summary by editing the text in the sidebar.

I see. I have updated my message mentioning Youtube too. Can Youtube show the description?

That one doesn’t work for me either, for some reason.

In any case, there’s nothing we do on our end with that URL. We just pass it on to that MicroLink API I mentioned and just output the results they give us. If those results are not what you’re looking for, you can still manually change things.

It’s not our API, so we do not have control over those values.

Ok got it. Thanks for explaining.

I have been left to try and make sense of running our web site and am not overly technically proficient. For the last few months the Facebook link at the bottom of our www.remarpro.com site not longer takes anyone to the Facebook page, whenever I connect to the dashboard, I am taken to page which suggests that I start paying Smash Balloon for a Pro version. Is this the only option available now, or is there a way of reinstating the Facebook feed?

Some clear and non techie response would be really helpful

    thanks

@runicles I don’t think that problem is related to the “Visual Link Preview” plugin that this support forum is for.

If it is, please open a new support thread as it doesn’t seem to be related to this particular problem either.
