    Dear WP Slice team,

I would like to set up WP Slice for my affiliate programme and wonder how the cookies are set on the users computer. Does WP Slice place an own cookie or does it use the Woocommerce standard cookie?

And in general is the plugin GDPR compliant?

    Thank you

    Kurt

    Hey @kurtberlin,

Thank you for reaching out! SliceWP uses its own set of cookies. They are first-party cookies and have an expiration date, which you can customize.

And yes, the plugin is GDPR compliant. However, to make sure your website is compliant, you will need to specify in your terms the cookies the website uses, SliceWP’s included.

Here’s the exact way the cookies work: both cookies store a unique ID, which is an integer value. The “slicewp_aff” cookies stores the affiliate’s unique ID, while the “slicewp_visit” cookie stored the visit’s unique ID.

When an order is created by your eCommerce plugin, SliceWP checks to see if the two cookies are set. If they are, they’ll validate them against each other and reward a commission to the appropriate affiliate.

    Thank you and best wishes,

    Mihai

    Hi @iovamihai ,

thank you for your answer and explaination! I just talked to my data protection adviser who told me it is necessary to sign a data processing agreement (DPA) with you in order to use the plugin. Where can I do this?

    Thank you

    Kurt

    Hey @kurtberlin,

Can you please offer more details on why this is necessary?

From a technical standpoint, the plugin is installed on your website and all data is stored in your website’s database. We, the developers of the plugin, don’t collect or access any of the data that is saved by the plugin on your website.

As far as I know, a DPA is required only if the data would be accessible by us. This is not the case however.

    Thank you and best wishes,

    Mihai

    Hey @iovamihai ,

thank you for clarifying! You’re right, in that case we don’t need a DPA then.

    Best, Kurt
