Buggy and often won’t work
-
This is my honest review of Jetpack.
I will start by saying that I have installed thousands of websites for over 20 YEARS, mainly WordPress over the last decade or so.
I have installed Jetpack hundreds of times so I have a lot of experience with it.
I have installed thousands of WordPress sites and plugins over the many years, and the only plugin I have EVER had issues with, is Jetpack.
The only plugin I have spent weeks emailing support, trying to get it sorted, it Jetpack. My review for Jetpack is mixed. I LOVE the publicize and social feature the most to be honest and years ago when they started, it was much better and less buggy, but overtime, it got slower and buggier, and doesn’t even work on many servers.
BUT as much as I love those features, I am starting to install Jetpack less because of the issues and actually uninstalled it off of most clients websites as well due to them having issues with Jetpack.
You can install WordPress on a server/host that is compatible and everything can work fine. Then you install Jetpack and it will either work or it won’t, giving you errors.
You speak to support and find out it is their end OR it’s your end and they often can’t say what the issue is, just that it is your end and to speak to your host.
You speak to the host, they aren’t blocking anything, you check yourself, everything is fine and everything works, just not Jetpack.
That is usually the option. Their end OR they say it’s the host, even if the host isn’t blocking anything (makes me wonder if it is just all because XML?RPC is so outdated and buggy as that is how it communicates)
So you often end up deleting the plugin, which I am doing more and more.
Even when the server is yours and nothing is being blocked, Jetpack can complain and have issues!
Jetpack can sometimes just not work even when it should, and even after days or weeks of troubleshooting and speaking to Jetpack and the web host, you might just never find out why it is happening, so have to just delete and move on!
Or the other frequent cause for errors is often XML?RPC related. Even if XML?RPC works, Jetpack often has issues with it and won’t work.
XML?RPC is VERY outdated and I hope that Jetpack move from it one day as I am sure that is one of the reasons that so many have issues.
You can have XML?RPC working fine but Jetpack can still complain and not work with it.
For anyone that doesn’t know, XML?RPC is a form of API, just a really old form of it that most companies/apps/plugins have depreciated it in favour of decent API that works better and is less buggy.
I hope one day Jetpack move away from this outdated buggy XML?RPC.But with the amount of issues I have seen on both my sites AND the ones I install for other people, I just can’t recommend Jetpack anymore. You can look in the forum or on other forums, and lots of people have the same variety of issues over and over.
I just can’t recommend it so this is my personal opinion and review after thousands of installations of it.
If they move from XML?RPC, I wouldn’t be surprised if everything improves!
Until then, I cannot recommend this plugin. Much too buggy and very unreliable.
