Wordfence free is certainly still available and the most popular solution for our customers. For reasons of why we’ve changed the free signup process please take a look at the following blog post: https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2022/11/wordfence-7-8-0-announcement/
Each site does require its own registration key. You can sign up for multiple site keys using the same email address as there’s no limit on how many a single email address can configure. It’s just the process itself that’s changed, with no further limitations. Existing free site keys created before the change will continue to work.

You can utilize Wordfence Central for free to manage security across all sites you’re responsible for in one dashboard. There’s no necessity to do this, though.
