Exclude Subpages from List Pages?

When I list pages the sub pages of the parent pages are listed too. I want to exclude them from being listed?

How do I do this?

Secondly I want the child pages to appear in a drop down menu on my other navigation menu.

How do I do either of the two and best would be to learn how to do both. Google is so fruitless with this.
