• Hi there,

I’ve been using ‘headspace’ pretty well since I installed WP1.5 and lately i’ve been trying to ‘widen’ it on the screen so that I can fit more text into the two columns (main text area and sidebar). I’ve been screwing around with the CSS file (but I don’t know much about CSS to be honest) and managed to get the header, footer and text areas to widen up pretty much ok, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the borders/boxes/backgrounds to ‘widen’ to match the text as well.

If this description sounds nuts – just browse to https://www.avalon5.com/blog and you will see what I mean. I know it’s not pretty at the mo, but I’m trying to get there:) Any help you can offer in telling me which bits of CSS I need to chage would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • coyote,

You need to edit those ‘boxes’ with photoshop (or some other editor). That is actually a background image!

thank you… so simple in the end:)

That takes care of the background colour.. now I dont suppose you can help me with the navigation menu under the header image? How do I widen that?
Thanks again – I really do appreciate the help. I’m making the changes as I write so you should see the diff if you browse to the site.

    Oops – ignore the above:)

I just realised its part of the header image!!!!

Check out this link and you will find the answer so simple in the end again:)

Thank you for the help. I’m almost done with this. I have updated all the background images to the right width, and all the text areas look ok.

The only outstanding thing now is to figure out why the footer won’t align up with everything else. Gawd I feel stupid today:)

OK – theme is almost perfect. It’s widended but for some reason I can’t get the footer to play ball. There is a ‘gap’ at the bottom of the page between the index / sidebar and the footer. I’ve tried playing around in the CSS file but I can’t track it down.

If you have time please browse to https://www.avalon5.com/blog and see what you think. Perhaps you could suggest where I should be looking to fix this ‘gap’? Thanks in advance.

    Coyote,

Don’t see a gap but I do see your background stop where sidebar content ends. Your going to want to make that background image part of you content post area so that it will stretch all the way to the bottom.

Through trial and error I’ve discovered that my site displays perfectly when I don’t use the Get-Recent-Comments plugin, but as soon as I include the code for this plugin in my side bar it screws up the bottom of the page. I don’t really understand why since there is loads of empty space left in the sidebar after the comments piece, and even more so when I exclude it.

Thanks for your suggestion above, but I’m thinking since it works fine without the recent comments maybe I need to look at the way the this plugin does things.
